Training Workshop for Halaal Sector in Pakistan

SANHA Pakistan, under the patronage of SANHA South Africa, arranged a one-day workshop with the purpose of training concerned personnel about halaal products certification. Chairman South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA), Moulana Yusuf Patel led a prominent six-member technical experts team to train the technical employs of the federal and provincial organizations on understanding and regulating halaal sector. The team educated and trained the participants on the halaal concepts in the light of Holy Quran and Sunnah, Halaal around the Globe, Responsibility of Muslim world in regulating Halaal- Shariah perspective and importance of educating and creating awareness in the various segments of the public.

The one-day training workshop was organized by the Ministry for Science and Technology in collaboration with Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) and Pakistan Standard Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) and Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST).

Appraising the efforts of SANHA, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Science and Technology remarked that Halaal sector was basic of the Muslim world but unfortunately 85% of OIC members countries’ Halal food imports was being carried out by Non-Muslim countries. He urged the Muslim scientific community to develop its own proactive dynamic and timely public information system in order to keep the Muslims aware of sound scientific information regarding Halaal.

Federal Minister also informed the participants about government’s initiatives regarding law for promoting export and import of food and non-food products and development of Halaal industry. He further told that the progress of Pakistan Halaal Authority shall be presented to the parliament for approval from Council of Common Interest.

Mr. Kamran Ali Qureshi, at the opening session of the workshop, highlighted the importance of the workshop and said that this was the first ever formal training session of its kind on halaal sector development being organized at the federal level, inviting participants from all the public sector stakeholder organizations.
